The Philippines:The Philippines constitutes an archipelago of 7,107 islands and is the second largest after Indonesia. It is located between 116° 40', and 126° 34' E. longitude and 4° 40' and 21° 10' N. latitude and borders the Philippine Sea on the east, the South China Sea on the west, and the Celebes Sea on the south. The island of Borneo is located a few hundred kilometres southwest and Taiwan is located directly to the north. The Moluccas and Sulawesi are located to the south-southwest and Palau is located to the east of the islands. The Philippines is divided into three island groups: Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. The port of Manila, on Luzon, is the capital city.The Philippine Trench is a submarine trench to the east of the Philippines. It has a length of approximately 1,320 kilometers and a width of round about 30 kilometers from the centre of the Philippine island of Luzon trending southeast to the northern Maluku island in Indonesia. Its deepest point, the Galathea Depth, has a depth of 10,540 meters. |
Puerto Galera, Mindoro:Mindoro is the seventh-largest island in the Philippines. It is located southwest of Luzon and northeast of Palawan. The island is divided into two provinces. This coastal town is well known among tourists for its numerous pocket beaches and many snorkeling and Scuba diving spots. |
